We came here during the Christmas break for dinner, when Auckland is nice and quiet. There were 5 of us and not one of us were happy with our meals. I ordered the seafood risotto which came out drenched in liquid, it was more like a stew than a beautiful creamy risotto. I ate the seafood and left most of the rice, it was drowned in stock and tasted like runny fishy water. I complained to the waiter and he just said "oh well you get that"! Not a good start! The others had steak and lamb, all said they were tough. We didn't want to look at the dessert menu and weren't offered it.
I have been here before and had great meals, I was so angry with the response that I cant recommend SPQR to anyone.
Earlier this month a friend went back for a 40th birthday dinner, they stuffed up the orders, sent out the entrees and a main which was wrong and given to the wrong person, waited up to 2 hours for their food in total, (I would have just walked out). Complained profusely and were ignored!
I don't think I need to rate it!

- What can I say! Alot really. One day over brunch at a cafe/restaurant in Herne Bay I had a flashbulb moment over brunch when I was critiquing my meal,to start a blog about restaurants and cafes in Auckland. My decision was backed up by one of my favourite past times, reading the reviews in Canvas and The Sunday Star Times and visiting the same cafes they have reviewed but often with differing opinions. So one Sunday after a fantastic party Saturday night,thanks ES, this blog was conceived over brunch and I have finally acted upon my lightbulb moment and started reviewing. I will endeavor to blog once a week, if not more, about cafes and restaurants in and around Auckland, and if I manage to venture out of the big smoke (which I do, especially during ski season) no doubt I will need to eat and I will blog about the cafes and restaurants I visit.

I went there with some friends from NY a couple of years ago and it was awful.. in fact, I think R was there! The meals took forever and they were crap.. I have been going to SPQR for years and had always enjoyed it! Somethimes I think if you are not someone special, they don't really care..I have gone there with local "celebs" and had the waiters flouncing all over us... so naff.. I have defiantley done my last dash @ SPQR!!
